The Story of Our Name
The meaning of our name has evolved with our internet activities. We began our ventures into internet marketing with very humble beginnings. It started out as a part time hobby just investigating the internet and trying to figure out how to make money online. We were experimenting with building websites and learning about how search engines work to get traffic to our sites.
Our very first website was named after a particular playing card, the King of Diamonds, also known as "the man with the axe". And that's where Axemedia was born. We were using search engine optimization to drive traffic to our sites and monetizing the sites with various forms of advertising. We branched out to various markets and constantly honed our skills in web design and search engine marketing.
Still our focus was global.
This remained a side venture for 2 years until we started to build a few sites for our own local small businesses as well as some run by friends and family members. Applying a local twist to our methods began to produce amazing results for these companies.
We also noticed that the vast majority of "web design firms" were simply building pretty, or not so pretty, websites. Very few of them were implementing search optimization strategies to ensure their clients websites get targeted traffic. Few of these web designers understand user behavior to guide their design process and ensure the site goes beyond looking pretty and becomes more functional and effective at selling. For these reasons we saw that many small business websites were just not performing as they should.
We began to see how the internet was evolving from a global and country specific marketing platform to also become an effective localized platform. Internet users became more sophisticated in their searching behaviors and were searching for local businesses online instead of in the phone book. It was here we realized we could capitalize on the wide range of skills we had been developing and use them to help small businesses to target their local customers online.
So today, the name remains the same but its meaning is very different.
We are located in the Interior of British Columbia, Canada and our head creative and technical director has a few years of experience working in the wild mountains as a forest technician and wildland fire fighter. So he's handled an axe more that a few times. Including throwing them at targets.
Now our name represents our methods of targeted local marketing, getting local internet users to find and visit our clients websites. Drawing on our past experiences we design our clients sites primarily for their visitors, not just for the client.
